How to Take the Keisei Skyliner from Narita Airport to Tokyo

A step-by-step guide to taking the Keisei Skyliner from Narita Airport to Tokyo, including directions to the station, ticket purchasing, boarding, and arrival information.

How Do You Get from Narita Airport to Tokyo?

After arriving at Narita International Airport in Japan, travelers can choose from several ways to reach Tokyo. One convenient option is the Keisei Skyliner, an express train connecting the airport with Nippori Station and Keisei-Ueno Station in Tokyo.

If this is your first time traveling from Narita Airport, there is no need to worry about finding the train station. The airport has clear signs directing passengers to the railway stations. Look for signs marked Railway, Train, Keisei, or Skyliner, and check which terminal your flight arrives at before starting your journey.

NARITA INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT

Step 1: What Should You Do After Landing?

After landing, complete the usual arrival procedures before looking for the train station.

  1. Pass through Immigration.

  2. Collect your luggage at the Baggage Claim area.

  3. Pass through Customs.

  4. Exit into the Arrival Lobby.

Once you have cleared Customs, you can start looking for signs directing you to the railway station. You do not need to leave the airport building and walk onto the street to find the station.

Step 2: How to Find the Keisei Skyliner Station

The location of the railway station depends on which terminal your flight arrives at.

If You Arrive at Terminal 1

After exiting into the Arrival Lobby, look for signs marked Railway or Train and follow them to B1F (Basement Level 1).

The station at Terminal 1 is called Narita Airport Station. Both JR and Keisei railway services operate from this station, so make sure you follow the signs for Keisei Skyliner before entering the ticket gates.

If You Arrive at Terminal 2

After leaving the Arrival Lobby, follow the Railway or Train signs to B1F.

The station you need is Narita Airport Terminal 2・3 Station, which serves passengers arriving at both Terminal 2 and Terminal 3. According to the airport's information, the walk from Terminal 2 takes approximately five minutes.

If You Arrive at Terminal 3

Terminal 3 is farther from the railway station than Terminal 2. The airport indicates that walking between the station area and Terminal 3 takes approximately 10 minutes.

If you have several bags or are traveling for the first time, consider taking the free airport shuttle bus to Terminal 2. Exit through North Exit 1 and take the shuttle bus to Terminal 2. From there, follow the connecting passageway and go down to B1F to reach the railway station.

Alternatively, you can walk to Terminal 2 using the designated airport walkway before proceeding to B1F.

Step 3: Where Can You Buy Keisei Skyliner Tickets?

Once you reach B1F, look for the SKYLINER & KEISEI INFORMATION CENTER or the Skyliner Ticket Counter.

These services are available near the following stations:

  • Narita Airport Station at Terminal 1

  • Narita Airport Terminal 2・3 Station for Terminals 2 and 3

If you need assistance in English, you can visit the SKYLINER & KEISEI INFORMATION CENTER. Its currently published opening hours are 7:00 AM–9:00 PM.

If you arrive after 9:00 PM, the Skyliner Ticket Counter is listed as operating until 11:30 PM. However, according to the service information, this counter provides assistance in Japanese.

KEISEI Electric Railway

If you have purchased an e-ticket in advance, check whether you need to exchange your QR code or booking confirmation for a physical ticket before boarding.

Step 4: Which Ticket Do You Need?

The Keisei Skyliner uses reserved seating, so you must have a valid Skyliner ticket to board. You cannot simply tap a Suica or PASMO card and board the train without the required Skyliner ticket.

If you want to travel to Nippori or Keisei-Ueno, you can tell the ticket staff:

“I would like one ticket to Nippori, please.”

Or:

“I would like one ticket to Keisei-Ueno, please.”

If you prefer not to speak English, you can also show the station name on your phone.

The standard one-way fare from Narita Airport to Nippori or Keisei-Ueno is listed in Keisei's FAQ at approximately ¥2,580 per adult, including the basic fare and the limited-express surcharge. However, the price may vary depending on the ticket type, discounts, or applicable conditions. Check the latest fare before traveling.

Step 5: Where Should You Go After Buying Your Ticket?

Once you have your ticket, check the details carefully, including your destination, train number, carriage number, and assigned seat.

Then follow these steps:

  1. Proceed to the Keisei ticket gates.

  2. Check the signs for Keisei Skyliner and your train information.

  3. Follow the signs to the platform shown on the departure boards.

  4. Wait for the train that matches your ticket.

  5. Board the correct carriage and sit in your assigned seat.

Do not board a train simply because you see a Keisei sign. Keisei operates several types of trains, and you must board the Keisei Skyliner service specified on your ticket.

If you are unsure, ask a staff member:

“Is this the Keisei Skyliner to Nippori?”

This helps you confirm that you are boarding the correct train.

Step 6: Which Station Should You Get Off At in Tokyo?

The Keisei Skyliner serves two important stations in Tokyo: Nippori and Keisei-Ueno.

Nippori Station

Nippori is a convenient choice if you plan to transfer to a JR train, such as the JR Yamanote Line, to continue to other areas of Tokyo.

Keisei-Ueno Station

Keisei-Ueno is a convenient choice if you are staying near Ueno or want to transfer to nearby railway and subway services.

Before buying your ticket, check the location of your hotel or final destination and choose the station that makes your onward journey easiest.

What If You Are Staying in Shibuya, Shinjuku, or Near Tokyo Station?

The Keisei Skyliner does not run directly to every district in Tokyo. If your destination is Shibuya, Shinjuku, or Tokyo Station, you will need to transfer to another train from Nippori or Keisei-Ueno.

For example, if you get off at Nippori, you can transfer to a JR line to reach a station near your hotel. Check the most suitable route in advance to make the journey easier.

Before purchasing your ticket, look up your accommodation on a map and identify the nearest station. This can help you avoid unnecessary transfers while carrying your luggage.

Important Things to Know Before Taking the Keisei Skyliner

  • Check which terminal your flight arrives at before heading to the station.

  • Follow the signs for Keisei Skyliner and make sure you do not accidentally enter the JR ticket gates.

  • Purchase the correct Skyliner ticket because the train uses reserved seating.

  • Check your destination, train details, and seat number on your ticket.

  • If you have an e-ticket, confirm the procedures for using or exchanging it before traveling.

  • If you arrive at Terminal 3 and have several bags, consider taking the free shuttle bus to Terminal 2.

  • Check the latest train timetable and departure information on the official website before your journey.
